Melody String ("we," "our," "the app") is a collaborative music app currently in development. This page explains what information we collect, why, and how it's used.

What we collect

We deliberately collect very little:

We do not collect your name, email address, precise location, contacts, photos, or any other personal information, and we do not require you to create an account to use the app.

How we use it

The device identifier and submitted content are used solely to operate the app's core features and to apply reasonable usage limits (such as a daily free-submission allowance) to keep the system fair and usable for everyone.

Third-party services we rely on

Data protection

We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we handle. All data sent between the app and our backend is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Our backend infrastructure runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS), with access restricted to authorized personnel only. We do not store passwords, and we never have access to your personal Google or YouTube account credentials — the only Google account our systems interact with is our own official Melody String channel, whose access credentials are stored securely on our backend infrastructure and are never exposed to end users or third parties.

Data retention and deletion (Google user data)

Melody String does not access, collect, or store any Google or YouTube data belonging to individual end users. The only Google/YouTube data our systems interact with is limited to our own official Melody String channel — used solely to publish live broadcasts and manage playlists via the YouTube API, using OAuth credentials tied to that channel, not to any user's personal Google account. Those channel credentials are retained only for as long as needed to operate the service, and can be revoked at any time by the channel owner via Google's own account permissions page (myaccount.google.com/permissions). Because we do not collect Google user data from end users of the app, there is no end-user Google data requiring separate deletion.

Data sharing and sale

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties except the infrastructure providers listed above, solely to operate the app as described.

Children's privacy

Melody String does not require an account, sign-in, or any personal information to use, regardless of age. The only identifiers associated with your use of the app are a randomly generated device ID and a randomly generated display alias (e.g. "VelvetCadence42") — neither is derived from or linked to your Apple ID, Google account, name, or email address. Because we don't collect personal information from any user, that includes children. If we introduce features later that do collect personal information (such as optional accounts), we'll update this policy and add appropriate protections for younger users at that time.

Changes to this policy

As the app grows (for example, if we introduce optional accounts or paid features), this policy will be updated to reflect any new data practices, and the "last updated" date above will change accordingly.
